Reverie

Lately I have been obsessing, no - culling over in my mind the 1930's. I usually do this to get to sleep after being at work all night to help me drift off into a slumber.
At the risk of sounding nutty I make up 'daydreams' that I am transported back into the 1930's and I am shopping at Chanel (but my 2011 money has miraculously converted to 1937 value money - so I have lots of it.) I am at 31 Rue Cambon, Paris and am friggin gorgeous and I can walk into Chanel without feeling intimidated. That's where I usually conk out and never get any further.
I thought I'd just share that.
Anyway here is a magazine from 1937 that is one of my oldest and I like very much.It comes with patterns like the cover and knitting and crochet.

This is very Chanel inspired isn't it. If anyone can read the instructions here is free pattern for you. Bonus.

Obsessing over Speaking again of Chanel I watched the movie Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky the other night. The costumes were utterly gorgeous and so were the interiors. The movie was so French. So sexy. Anna Mouglalis was piss elegant. I am her in my daydream by the way. Te he or should I say ah bon?

very frankie

From the magazine.

My collection.

notes to self

It was so very hot yesterday at the markets.
Note to self: no more February outdoor markets.

Another few notes to self. There are some really nice stands at the markets who also have Etsy shops and I am just going to put them here before I end up loosing their cards.

Cherish Treasures are made in Australia not China! and they look unreal. I am going to get one of these brooches to add to my collection. Amazing.

Thelma Lane makes handcrafted books and cards. Really excellent quality.

Last but not least is Bree Pash Designs. Her clothes are so beautiful and well made. They have a modern yet kickback fifties feel.

So many talented people.

kitsch me you fool

These are a few things that I have gathered over the last month to sell at the markets this Sunday.
Will someone love them I ask myself. They seem pretty confident that they will be going to new homes:)

knickers

I came across some silk knickers the other day. What a treat. They don't turn up very often in my end of the woods.
I had to succumb to turning these ones over to Steph for her tap dance lessons. A must for every 12 year old. They were so tiny and fit her perfectly.

The other couple I bought I am selling on. And looky what I did today. I opened an ETSY SHOP (yell it like Oprah). I am still in the process of working everything out but it is one of my bucket list.

love hate

Back to school with some jazzy covered books. Aw!how cute.
A hot tedious afternoon of paper, tape and contact but pleased with the outcome.

a long time a comin'

I have been surprisingly lucky in the last few weeks re dresses not only to sell on, but for me too.
This one I got at a market last week. The girls who sold it to me said it belonged to a 90 year old who handmade it but left it hanging in her wardrobe for 50 odd years. Although I believe it came from this old lady I see traces where a label once was on the neck. Maybe it was the nursing home name label. Oh Jeez.

This is a dress I have been waiting to have for 25 years. Twenty five long years!
A 1940-50's brown wrap around. In the 80's I wanted so badly to wear this with cowboy boots. I have never grabbed paid and said adieu so quickly in my life when I found this. I think I am a kind of normal person but to yearn for a dress for this long?? It may look like a robe but its not. Really.
