mystery

The inside of clothes are a fascination to me. I especially like homemade clothes as there is usually alot of care that has gone into the making. I am swinging from era to era on this dress. When I first saw it I thought it was 1970's because of the material, then when I look at the style it is 1940'-50s.

Did 1940 dress patterns have notches? White cotton repair.

Would 1970's pattern bother with french seams?

The zip replaced but it looks like it was done yesterday

Buttons original or replaced. Sewn with white cotton

Button loops reworked and re sewn over new zip

Green cotton hem, so beautifully and patiently done

Made by a woman in the 1970's whose heyday was the forties? I don't know and maybe never will.

  1. I reckon late 70's. I can remember doing french seams for no reason except that I was an anal retentive and tried to make every garment perfectly. I think the Valentino retrospective should have had a dress displayed inside out so we could see the equistite workmanship. Fashion is not all buttons and bows
